League Tag prevailed 10-0 to maintain their third position on the table 3 points clear of fourth placed Manildra.
The Goannas moved to second spot on the table when they held out a fast finishing Rhinos outfit winning 39-32.
In the earlier Youth League match, Manildra were too strong for an understrength Canowindra Tigers to the tune of 52-14.
This Sunday we are away to Canowindra in both grades with League Tag kicking off at 12.40pm and First Grade 2pm.
LEAGUE TAG
The Girlannas led 4-0 at halftime after a try to Zoe Gavin but it was not until Casey Hewen scored and Isabel Holz goaled from out wide late in the second half that it appeared Grenfell would get home in the close tussle. Although down by 10 points and not many minutes left on the clock Manildra kept coming at the Girlannas however a strong all round performance by the locals highlighted by their defence ended up securing the victory for them. Best and Fairest points went to Breanna Anderson (3), Rachel Causer (2), and Anna Brenner (1) with Isabel Holz picking up the players player. Dean Coldicott was again the recipient of the first try scorers bonus of $140 when his Calcutta purchase Zoe Gavin opened the scoring for the hosts.
FIRST GRADE
It looked like the Goannas were going to have a tough day at the office when Manildra shot out to a 10 nil lead after only 7 minutes of play. The Goannas were able to regain their composure and put on 4 tries to go to the break with a lead of 20-10. Grenfell started the second half like they finished the first and were well on top leading 32-10 with 30 minutes remaining on the clock. Manildra came back into the match with a couple of tries to be behind 32-20 and Grenfell were struggling after their bench was reduced to two with five players unable to take any further part in the game due to injuries. Joe Williams whose kicking game was solid all day steadied the ship with a field goal to give the Goannas a 13 point buffer but the Rhinos came back again to be 7 behind and 12 minutes to play. Grenfell went to a 39-26 lead when Sam Ingram picked up a loose ball and scooted 50 metres to score out wide and Phil Ingram knocked over the pressure conversion. With less than 10 on the clock, the Goannas were able to hold out the Manildra attack until they scored a consolation try in the final 30 seconds. Best and Fairest points went to Josh Bateman (3), Brendan Hewen (2), and Joe Herden (1) with Brendan also being the players player. Phil Ingram scored two tries and kicked five tries and the other try scorers were Sam Ingram, Dan Harveyson, Mena Aditagane, Brendan Hewen and Josh Bateman. Phil Ingram in jumper 5 was the first try scorer and the $190 went to Gary Hewen and Neil Eppelstun who purchased this jumper at the Calcutta.
