'Boys like that have fun': Broncos players in spotlight after public brawl

National Rugby League's integrity unit was reviewing the footage, filmed on February 11, and was in discussion with the club.

"We were there as mates and it started out as a playful fight, a little bit of wrestling that got a bit heated but there was no one injured," Mr Reynolds said when he fronted media with Mr Carrigan on February 13.

"I just want to take full responsibility for my actions," Mr Carrigan said.

"It's obviously not ideal behaviour but as a club we're moving forward and I'll stand side by side with Adam," he said.

The footballers said their relationship had recovered from the fight but that it was poorly timed as the team prepared to travel to Las Vegas for a March 2 match against the Sydney Rooster.

Mr Carrigan and Mr Reynolds were considered key players in the upcoming promotion of NRL in the US.

Broncos head coach Kevin Walters defended the players saying "rugby league is a very competitive sport, lots of testosterone, and boys like that have fun."

"Well, they're not boys, they're men," he said, correcting himself.

"It obviously got a bit out of hand, so it's disappointing but it's not the end of the world," he said.

In response questions over alcohol abuse issues in the club, Mr Walters said drinking was a major issue in Australian society, "and we're part of society".

"I'm not exactly sure how much alcohol was consumed but it's not ideal, we know that, we appreciate that but we're just moving on," he said.

Mr Walters confirmed the club would not suspend the players but said a judgement from the NRL was yet to be made.

"The NRL will deal with it and we'll cop whatever the NRL comes up with," he said.

To ensure tensions don't spill over into another fight, Mr Walters said the club would support its players and "make sure that they've got someone with them that can make good decisions on their behalf".
