Following on from the results of the Local Government Elections Councillors met at the Weddin Shire Council chambers where they took their oath of office before electing a new mayor and deputy mayor.
Cr Craig Bembrick and Cr Mark Liebich were both put forward for the position of Mayor with Cr Bembrick winning the ballot five votes to four.
The election of Deputy Mayor also had two nominations with Cr Carly Brown and Cr Paul Best which resulted in Cr Paul Best being named in the position six votes to three.
The newly elected Mayor Bembrick thanked his fellow Councillors for their support as well as former Mayor Mark Liebich for his nine-and-a-half-years of service as well as congratulated the new members of Council.
"I'd like to thank you Councillors for your show of support today and congratulations to the Deputy Mayor," Mayor Bembrick said.
"Firstly, I'd like to extend a warm welcome to our newly elected Councillors, Cr White, Cr Cook and welcome back to Council Cr McClelland."
Cr Bembrick also thanked the former General Manager and the acting General Manager.
"It is important to acknowledge Glen Carroll's strong contribution during the eight years as our previous General Manager and Jaymes Rath for acting in the role for the last few months under difficult circumstances," Cr Bembrick said.
