The stay-at-home orders, which came into effect at 7pm on Wednesday, will apply to all people who live in these areas in Western NSW or those who have been there on or after August 5, 2021.
The towns join Dubbo in a week long lockdown, while Newcastle, Tamworth and Armidale have also joined Greater Sydney in lockdowns in the past few weeks.
The rules for this area will be the same as those already in place across Greater Sydney.
Everyone in these areas must stay at home unless they have a reasonable excuse to leave. They also cannot have social visitors in their home from outside their household, including family and friends.
People still can have one visitor at one time to fulfil carers' responsibilities or provide care or assistance, or for compassionate reasons, including where two people are in a relationship but do not live together.
The positive case who was known to be in Bathurst and Dubbo during their infectious period lives in Walgett.
The person was tested on August 7, returning a positive result today. They are considered to have potentially been infectious from August 5.
Investigations and contact tracing are underway.
Western NSW Local Health District has urged anybody with COVID-19 symptoms to come forward for testing.
"Additional testing capacity will be provided in Walgett from tomorrow, Thursday 12 August opening at 9am at Alex Trevallion Park, enter via Castlereagh Highway, exit to Pitt Street," it said in a statement.
