Australia Day ceremonies will be held across the country on Sunday morning with plenty of people nominated for various awards, read on below to get to know some of the nominees in the Weddin Shire area before the winners are announced on Sunday.

Citizen of the Year:
Bernadette Dykhoff - Bernadette has been honorary organiser/caterer at the Grenfell Jockey Club Races for more than 20 years as well as the gardener and groundsperson.
She has hosted functions for the Jockey Club, Lions, Garden Club and Red Cross at her home over many years.
She has worked tirelessly for the Lions Club with Mini Lotto, Friday Night Raffles and other fundraisers since her late husband Jack joined Lions in July 2008. Prior to Jack joining Lions, he was an honorary member owing to his and Bernadette's outstanding assistance to the Club.
Bernadette is a member of the Hospital Auxiliary, Garden Club and Red Cross as well as being a regular volunteer delivering Meals on Wheels and church cleaning.
Since the inception of the Grenfell Rodeo three years ago, Bernadette has volunteered her time sitting in the street selling raffle tickets, 100 club tickets, working for days on end setting up and cleaning up before and after the Rodeo, and manning the gate all day at the Rodeo.
Bernadette also assists on the gate at the Grenfell Show.
Bernadette was announced "Lions Citizen of the Year" at the Annual Changeover in July but was unable to attend. Her award was presented at the Lions 'thank you' day at Lions Park at the Railway Station in November.
The Grenfell Lions Club is honoured to nominate Bernadette as the Weddin Shire Citizen of the Year for the 2020 Australia Day Awards.
Helen Denovan - Helen has worked as an Occupational Therapist for over 35 years, the last 23 of which she has spent tirelessly at Grenfell Hospital.
Over this time she has helped many with medical aids.
Helen travels from Caragabal on her duty days to work.
Anyone that has come by her would agree that she provides an exceptional service.
Belinda Mort - Belinda runs the Greenethorpe Post Office and Café - a place where residents and visitors are welcomed, can meet, find a sympathetic ear, drop off items and messages to each other, and get community news.
Belinda is the fulcrum of the village and, as we saw when she took in James and his mother after their family tragedy, and in her appeal for clothes and essentials when another community member lost their home, she is committed to the wellbeing of our community.
Senior Citizen of the Year:
Deidre Carroll - Deidre was born 1 August, 1942 at Lithgow. She has been involved in the community since coming to Grenfell in 1962. Over the years Deidre supported all schools and organisations in which her children were involved, as well as many local organisations.
Deidre has been a timekeeper at local and Zone Levels for the Lions Youth of the Year Quest, as well as organising the certificates/venues etc for these functions.
Each year, Deidre has been presented with a 'Certificate of Appreciation' for her contribution to the Lions Club. Prior to the Henry Lawson Festival each year, Deidre is busy organising fundraisers for the Club's King/Queen entrants.
Deidre is a member of the Lions District 201N4 Cabinet where she is the Chairperson of three portfolios: Children's Health and Mobility, Nurses Foundation and Public Relations.
In the past 12 months Deidre was coordinator for catering over 80 members of the 'Jaguar Car Club' and a similar number for the 'A Model Ford Club' when they visited Grenfell.
The Grenfell Lions Club is honoured to nominate Deidre as the Weddin Shire Senior Citizen of the Year for the 2020 Australia Day Awards.
Marie Cotter - Marie has been a tower of strength in every organisation she has been involved in, always willing to give 110 percent in every aspect as well as holding executive positions where required.
Marie deserves recognition for her mighty contributions to all she has been involved in.
Community Event/Organisation of the Year:
Grenfell Food Hall - the focus of the Grenfell Food Hall is to make sure that every family in the Weddin Shire has food on the table.
Grenfell RSL Sub-Branch - the sub-branch organises the ANZAC Day ceremonies, ANZAC Day Dining In Night, VP and Vietnam Veterans Day and Remembrance Day. These ceremonies and events don't just happen, they are the result of months of planning, organisation and liaising, involving many individuals and organisations in our town and district.
Youth Awards:
The Henry Lawson High School nominee is Anna Hunt.
Anna was the Student of the Year 2019 for THLHS. She made an outstanding contribution to her school through her academic achievements, sporting representation and involvement in school and community activities.
The school would like to congratulate Anna on her exceptional achievements in 2019.
The Grenfell Public School nominee is Sophie Berry.
During 2019 Sophie was Grenfell Public School Captain. Sophie consistently displayed exemplary behaviour and has been an active participant in all school activities. Sophie was awarded Student of the Year 2019 which is a high achievement at Grenfell Public School.
The St Joseph's Catholic School Grenfell nominee is Skye McLelland.
Skye's achievements in 2019 include: being School Captain, being a member of the Student Representative Council, her involvement in Mini Vinnies - social justice group, participating in dance, netball and other team and individual sports, performing in the Grenfell Dramatic Society Pantomime, taking part in various public speaking events.
Skye also participated in all school related community events such as ANZAC Day, Remembrance Day, Henry Lawson Festival events, Carols in the Park, school choir events. Skye demonstrated her outstanding citizenship by way of personally organising a fundraiser for the cancer treatment facility Chris O'Brien Lifehouse.
The Quandialla Public School nominee is Summer Dixon.
Summer is an enthusiastic student at Quandialla Public School who displays the attributes of an outstanding citizen.
Summer is a thoughtful student whose natural instinct is to involve everyone and lend a helping hand wherever it's needed.
It is a great privilege to nominate Summer Dixon for this award and share with you her wonderful outlook on life.
The Caragabal Public School nominee is Amber Taylor.
Amber represented Caragabal Public School and Grenfell on numerous occasions throughout the year.
She's a dedicated, determined and passionate student and athlete.
Amber was the 2019 School Captain where she displayed characteristics of leadership and consideration.
The Greenethorpe Public School nominee is Thomas Murphy.
Thomas consistently works hard in the classroom.
Thomas has been a school leader for two years at Greenethorpe Public School.
During this time he has been happy to help others including students and staff.
Thomas recently went above and beyond during the School Swimming Program.
The best pass in the Higher School Certificate nominee is Marie Knight.
Marie was the highest achieving student in the 2019 HSC.
She achieved Band 6s in Agriculture and Modern History, and Band 5s in Biology, Community and Family Studies, Advanced English, and Mathematics.
Marie received an outstanding ATAR score of 93.2. Congratulations Marie!
The Grenfell Australia Day ceremony will be held at Grenfell Public School under the outdoor learning area with the Rotary Barbecue Breakfast from 8am.
