This will soon be the reality for The Henry Lawson High School (THLHS) student Connor Day as he embarks on the “West of the Divide Tour” next year.
Accompanying Connor will be THLHS music teacher Brodie McNight.
Seventy-two young musicians have been chosen to take part from 39 public schools, all of which are west of the Blue Mountains.
They will form the fourth West of the Divide band tour, which in January next year will travel to Europe for scheduled performances in Rome, Florence, Venice, Bled and Zagreb, the 12 day tour will feature concerts across Italy, Slovenia and Croatia.
Connor was nominated by his percussion tutor after attending the Western Band Camp recently and was overwhelmed to have been selected to take part in the two week tour performing in some of the worlds most incredible venues.
“I was gobsmacked when I was notified that I had been selected to participate in the tour,” said Connor.
“I am really looking forward to performing in some amazing venues like Vatican City and St Marks Basilica in Venice, I am very grateful for the opportunity,
“I also hope to see some of the great sites like the Colosseum and the Statue of David,” he added
The two ensembles will perform in some amazing venues and experience workshops with international maestros, school visits and workshops and in two Australian embassies, one in Rome on their arrival and one on Australia Day in Zagreb.
In Croatia, they will live the culture through experiencing a vocal Clapa singing workshop. Clapa is a Croatian folk singing style.
Three students from Young will also join Connor and Brodie on the tour as well as Cowra music teacher Mary-ann Wright.
