This year marked the special occasion of the 100th Anniversary of Armistice Day. Grenfell RSL sub-branch president Glen Ivins welcomed the huge crowd followed by Terry Carroll who delivered the Acknowledgement to Country.
At 1100 hours the parade faced the west during the sounding of ‘The Last Post’ where flags were lowered to half mast, then came a period of one minutes silence followed by the Ode of Remembrance –
“They shall grow not old – as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them” Lest We Forget.
Grenfell RSL Chaplain Margaret Knight then recited a Prayer of Remembrance and Peace followed by the Wreath Laying ceremony where children from local schools laid wreaths along with veterans as well as a number of clubs and organisations.
Special Guest, Australian Army Captain Emily Douglas (nee Moffitt), then gave a commemorative address.
After the Service the RSL sub-branch committee hosted a luncheon at the Grenfell Bowling Club which included the announcement of the Grenfell Cadet Platoon’s Cadet of the Year.
The 2018 recipient was CPL Dylan King who was presented with the prestigious Swagger Stick by Mr Peter Moffitt on behalf of the Grenfell Bowling Club, this is awarded to a cadet that displays outstanding behavior and commitment throughout the year. Congratulations Dylan.
