Two pairs in Round 5 of the Men's Spring Tennis Competition won the same number of games to win the round on Tuesday night.

Charles Harvey and his fill-in for Mark Liebich, Steve Walker and Graham Watt and Rod Freudenstein won 27 games each. Graham was a fill-in for Grant Fisher. Charles and Steve had a good night of tennis, winning four of their sets 5/3, 6/2, 6/2, 6/2 and levelling the third set 4/4, while Graham and Rod, although going down in two of their sets 3/5, 2/6, won two of their other sets 8/0 after winning their their second set 6/2. Well played by the four men.
The next best players were Grahame Edwards and Lewis Keogh, winning a total of 25 games. Lewis was a fill-in for Rick Power. Grahame and Lewis did not lose a set, however, two of their sets were levelled at 4/4, 4/4. Their winning sets were 5/3, 5/3, 7/1- very close tennis for the men. Andrew Bucknell and Pat Hazell battled away in their sets to go down 3/5, 3/5 then went back on the court in blazing form to win 7/1, 7/1 and lost the plot in their last set to go down 0/8 for a total of 20 games. The other two pairs taking part in Round 5, Anthony Wilson and John Walmsley and Danny Edwards and Arnold Brown did not fair as well as the other pairs, although both pairs recorded a 4/4. Danny was a fill in for Stuart McKellar.
Round 6, which is the halfway mark of the Men's Spring Competition, will be played next Tuesday, September 25. Wishing the Grenfell Jockey Race Club a very successful Race Day tomorrow, Saturday, September 22.
