Despite the noble name, Gentleman Max is always ready for a scrap and is fighting fit to take on a handy field tomorrow (Saturday) in the $7500 Oliver’s Hardware/Crutcher Developments 2000 metres Grenfell Cup. An extremely tough galloper, Gentleman Max first raced as a three year old in 2015 and over 3 seasons has raced an incredible 78 times for 10 wins and 23 placings.

Trained at Wagga Wagga by Trevor Sutherland, Gentleman Max has recorded the 10 wins on rain affected tracks which is highly unlikely to be the case at Grenfell, however the 6 year old gelding with Cowra jockey Michael Travers in the saddle will nevertheless be a favoured runner in the Cup.
Gentleman Max, the 2017 Forbes Cup winner, is currently in good form as is stablemate Run Hoff Run, last start winner of the Aggies Cup at Wagga and a winner over the 2000 metres Grenfell Cup distance earlier this year at Wagga.
Bryan Murphy will ride Run Hoff Run for Trevor Sutherland while Cowra jockey Mathew Cahill is booked for the Luke Pepper, Canberra trained Highgate Hill, a proven stayer having won over 2500 metres at Pakenham, Victoria, in 2016.
Sovereignaire (Ken Dunbar) from the Dean Mirfin stable at Bathurst is yet to win over further than 1400 metres but has plenty of ability.
The $8000 Cultiv8 Loaded Dog Benchmark 58 Handicap (1400 metres) has attracted a big field including the Laurie Brown, Grenfell trained Destiny Road (Tiffany Jeffries) which is resuming from a spell and the Trevor Sutherland last start Corowa winner Tearful Kitty ( Michael Travers).
Smart Attire (Ken Dunbar) trained at Wellington by Karen McCarroll, the sister of champion jockey Greg Ryan, is expected to go well being a recent Tamworth winner and last start fourth to Outta Space at Wellington. With very good fields a top days racing seems assured at Grenfell with the first race scheduled for 1.20pm.

President’s Message
Welcome everyone on behalf of the Grenfell Jockey Club to the Henry Lawson “Loaded Dog” and Grenfell Cup meeting for 2018. This is a great day for all Grenfell racing people and one I really look forward to each year.
I am looking forward to my twelfth year as President and would like to thank the hard working committee for making the track and facilities look fantastic. The track and surrounds are in magnificent order considering the very dry conditions. The small but energetic committee do a terrific job of looking after it.
Thank you to all the sponsors for supporting our meeting and we hope you enjoy your association with us and have a great day at our races. The Club has had fantastic support from the local community and I thank everyone who has helped to make this day what it is.
Thanks to all the trainers and owners for your support and for bringing horses here to race. We try to give you extra little incentives because we know how important you are to our race day. We nearly always race on the 3rd weekend in September except this year it is the 4th Saturday, so put the date in your diary and make it an annual event.
Welcome to all visitors to Grenfell and we hope you have a day to remember and make new friends and memories to take away with you. Happy punting and enjoy your day at the picturesque Grenfell racecourse.
