WOMEN’S BOWLS –
A rather busy week which started last Thursday with two teams travelling to Cootamundra for the Country Clubs combined Presidents and 60th Birthday Party. One team had a win, with the other having a narrow loss. Only one prize which went to a skip for a resting toucher. (Drawn out of a hat as no-one actually got one.) An enjoyable day. Friday saw a singles game played between Sonia Ingall and Tracey Hunter. Both ladies have been members of the club for some time but due to work commitments have been unable to participate in championships. Sonia was the overall winner due to a bit more practice under her belt but it was pleasing to see both ladies on the green.
Saturdays conditions were not conducive to good bowls with extremely strong winds. However, two games were played, one singles and one pairs. Courtney Hunter played Sue Gault in the singles. A very close game with Courtney winning 25 to 22. Sue led most of the game but Courtney came through on the last couple of ends. In the afternoon a game of pairs was played. This included for the first time in a long time the mother and daughter combination of Tracey and Courtney Hunter, against Julie Wood and Rosemary Walter. Julie and Rosemary got out to a good lead but Tracey and Courtney pegged them back. They were 10 all on the 9th end, 12 all on the 11th end and 13 all on the 13th end. The longer playing pair then won four of the next five ends and the game. Julie and Rosemary were very pleased to win the game, as with more experience from Tracey, the Hunter combination will be hard to beat. All games were played in the true spirit of bowls with some good and not so good bowls, some laughter and an enjoyable time. Next Thursday after bowls, a meeting will be held to put the final polish on our Presidents Day on October 4. A list is on the board for all local players who wish to take part. President Kathy is putting her mark on her day, it is to be played in mufti with a touch of red. It is hoped that some members who do not normally play will have a go. Everyone is most welcome, so please put your name on the list. The ladies also thank Tim Fowler for his help recently. R.D.
