On Sunday August 5 The Grenfell Stingers travelled to Forbes to take on the Parkes Rovers, in what would become a 12 goal thriller. The Grenfell Stingers were keen to make it two wins in a row and were hoping to get off to the perfect start but it was Parkes who struck the first blow scoring not long into the first half. This fired Grenfell up and we went on the attack but weren’t able to equal the score just yet. With play swinging from one end of the field to the other, both teams were giving it their all and Grenfell were the next to score after a beautifully placed kick from Andrew sailed over the defence and Michael was able to head the ball past the keeper to even up the scores. The rest of the first half was fast paced with both sides wanting to go into the break in the lead but the whistle blew and we went into the break at 1-1.

The second half kicked off and Grenfell was wanting to take the lead early but Parkes spoiled our plans and scored 2 quick goals to go out in front 3-1.This deflated Grenfell a little bit and Parkes were able to enjoy some time with possession of the ball but Grenfell’s defence held strong and stopped them from going further in front. Now this is where it gets interesting, I was there and I still don’t know what happened so I will try to describe it as best I can. Something started to click with Grenfell and we started controlling the possession and this lead to a second goal to Michael making it 3-2. Parkes didn’t like this and responded with another goal taking them to a 4-2 lead. In retaliation 2 quick goals from Connor and Jorge put Grenfell on equal terms 4-4. Grenfell conceded again and not long after that Michael completed his hat trick to level the scores once again at 5-5. Parkes thought we could do with some more practice with our kick offs as they scored again with 10mins to go to take the lead 6-5.Grenfell fought hard and were rewarded with a goal thanks to Connor with 5 mins to go to make the full time score Grenfell 6-Parkes 6. Every player gave it their all and didn’t give up which is a credit to each of them but we will have to keep playing good soccer if we want to finish in prime position on the ladder come finals.
