Grenfell RSL members, ex-service men and women along with official guest John McGrath, local Cadets, various clubs and organisations and community members participated in the 2018 Grenfell Anzac Day commemorations.

Proceedings began at 5.45 am with record crowds attending the Dawn Service followed by the annual pilgrimage to the local cemetery. At 10.30 am patrons gathered in Main Street for the annual March to Memorial Park for the 11 am Service. RSL president Glenn Ivins welcomed attendees followed by Terry Carroll’s Acknowledgement to Country.
Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke was in attendance and addressed the crowd. Grenfell Cadets formed the Catafalque Party while a number of organisations took part in the wreath laying ceremony. Town Band members Paul and Michael Best sounded ‘The Last Post’ before a minutes silence was held. Heather Horneman, Corps Leader of Salvation Army, delivered a prayer of thanksgiving.
Mr Ivins then introduced special guest Mr John McGrath who gave a moving speech depicting his ties with Grenfell as his grandfather and uncle enlisted for WWI here.
Students from Grenfell Public School, St Joseph’s Primary and Frazer Ryder from THLHS recited a poem/short story while Riley Gray said a prayer for the nation. Mayor Mark Liebich then read an extract from PTE Roy Denning’s diary followed by the singing of the National Anthems, which finalised the ceremony.
