Grenfell’s ‘Voices against Violence’ committee was overjoyed at the generosity from the community when it held its recent ‘Clothes Swap’ fundraiser. Participants were treated to morning tea as well as a huge amount of clothing, shoes, bags, jewelry and more.

“The Grenfell Voices against Violence committee sincerely thank all those who contributed in any way, big or small, to make this event such a success, we raised over $1000 that will go towards raising DV awareness in our community,” said Elly Schiller – Social Worker, GCH.

During her speech Elly disclosed the following statistics: In 2017 there were 48 domestic violence (DV) incidents reported in Grenfell, 21 of those were investigated and found that DV offences were committed. 12 of those offenders were charged. 13 AVO’s were applied for by police. Sadly, of the 48 reported, 19 had children in the home. So far in 2018 there have been 19 incidents reported. Elly also said  that a large number of offences go un-reported. Help is available by calling 000 or the 24 hour DV helpline 1800 737 732.
