Last Tuesday Pat, Kathy and Rosemary travelled to Cootamundra Ex-Services Club to compete in the District Fours Championships with a first round game against a Coota Country Club team skipped by Jan Slavin. After 21 ends the game was tied at 17 all. On change over Grenfell held 3 shots but Jan drew the absolute shot and Rosemary was unable to convert, so we went down by one shot on an extra end. Lyn Fisher has a bye in the first round and won the next round. Jan was defeated by Elsie Hines from Young who went on to play Lyn from CootaX in the final, In a tight finish Coota Ex-Services were the winners. Well done.
On Thursday 3 Boorowa ladies came to Grenfell for Pennant practice, we found more practice is needed. From now on, thanks to the club committee, we will be holding social bowls on Saturday’s with names to be in by 10.30am for an 11am start, this allows working women and school girls time to play. You don’t have to be good at sport as bowls is a gentle sport, junior girls are most welcome. Ordinary clothes, flat shoes, sunblock and a sense of humor is all that is needed. Next week Joy, Kathy and Pat will travel to Boorowa to play in the District Triples, we wish them every success.
INDOOR BOWLS
Last Friday night we played one game of fours and 15 ends, the scores were a bit one sided but they were no indication of the most enjoyable game. An invitation was received to attend Cowra Open Day on March 11, the District Fun Day will be held in Grenfell on May 27. There will be a long overdue meeting on Tuesday February 27 at 7pm. Indoor bowls will continue this coming Friday evening from 7pm.
