After coming away with a disappointing loss the previous week the Stingers were keen to start strong and get back to our winning ways.
With a few injuries and players not being able to make it the Stingers turned up with 12 players.
The starting 11 were Mick Walker in goals, Mitch Wheatley, Frazer Ryder, Ben and Murray Walker in the backline, the midfield consisted of Martin Galea, Jarrod draffin, Cris Jenkins and Ashley Kuhn, Hamish Starr and Dj Griffiths up front and Ethan Eyles as our sub.
Grenfell kicked off and went straight on the attack looking for an early goal but the saints backline were keeping our attacks at bay, play flowed from one end of the pitch to the other with both teams playing good soccer and looking for the first goal.
Some good passing from the midfield led to Ethan putting a cross in which Hamish neatly finished into the back off the net giving the Stingers a 1-0 lead.
This lifted Grenfell who were keen to get another goal.
Grenfell kept the pressure on the Saints backline and this led to the Saints keeper spilling the ball and Martin was there to put it calmly into the back of the net scoring his first goal of the season and getting himself off the nudie run.
After losing Cris early in the game due to injury Grenfell were down to 11 players and not having a sub took its toll on the Stingers with fatigue starting to kick in and the Stingers were starting to make silly mistakes and Saints could sense this and lifted their attack and scored just before half time.
Grenfell went into the half time break with a 2-1 lead.
The second half got under way and the Saints went straight on the attack looking for the equalising goal and they didn’t have to wait long with them scoring a goal from the penalty spot making the score 2-2.
Grenfell were unlucky with a few decisions from the ref going against them and it wasn’t long before the Saints took control of the game and scored 3 more goals to make the final score Saints 5- Grenfell Stingers 2.
Well done to Ben Walker who won Players Player followed closely by Jarrod.
Thanks to the Grenfell Stingers’ sponsors The Royal Hotel and The Grenfell Meatbarn and to the spectators who travelled over to cheer us on. Your support is much appreciated.
Our next game is at home this Sunday at 12 noon at top Lawson Oval against Condobolin.
So come on down to enjoy a good game of soccer and support the Grenfell Stingers.
