Designed to support local community infrastructure and other drought relief projects for communities impacted by drought, the programme, which was announced in December, aims to provide immediate economic stimulus to drought-affected communities.
Mayor for the Weddin Shire, Cr Mark Liebich said they are very grateful and thank the Federal Government for providing the Weddin Shire with this additional funding.
"This funding will provide a valuable contribution economically, but it will also provide additional employment for our residents and lead to the retention of businesses, services and facilities within our Shire."
Residents of the Weddin Shire are invited to provide expressions of interest, feedback and suggestions to Council on where the funding could be spent within the funding guidelines, with all projects required to be completed by December 2020.
Types of projects that are eligible to be funded include upgrades to streetscapes, recreational facilities or sporting facilities, community focused events, the purchasing of new equipment, or upgrades to roads.
During round one of the Drought Community Funding Programme in 2019, the Weddin Shire completed a number of projects with the $1 million they received including upgrades to the netball and tennis courts, upgrades to Greenethorpe, Caragabal and Quandialla Memorial Halls, the Grenfell Preschool and Long Day Care Green Space Project, and six portable grand stands for the Grenfell Showground.
"We hope to receive many submissions from the community as to how they would like to see this funding invested so that Council can provide long-lasting benefits to our Shire and its residents," Cr Liebich said.
EOIs from Weddin Shire residents will be accepted up until 4pm Friday, January 31 and can be submitted via email, mail@weddin.nsw.gov.au or via post to the following address: PO Box 125, Grenfell, NSW, 2810.
