TAFE NSW West Region will be holding BBQ’s at all colleges on Tuesday 30 May from 12 noon – 1.00pm and Grenfell TAFE College will be participating.
This year will commemorate two significant reconciliation milestones – the 50th anniversary of the successful 1967 Aboriginal citizenship referendum and the 25th anniversary of the High Court Mabo Decision.
We extend an invitation to you to join us at the campus where we will be having a BBQ lunch beginning at 12 noon.
May 27—Marks the anniversary of Australia’s most successful referendum and a defining event in our nation’s history.
The 1967 referendum saw over 90 per cent of Australians vote to give the Commonwealth the power to make laws for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and recognise them in the national census.
3 June—Commemorates the High Court of Australia’s landmark Mabo decision in 1992, which legally recognised that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have a special relationship to the land—a relationship that existed prior to colonalisation and still exists today.
This recognition paved the way for land rights or Native Title.
Who is involved?
All Australians are invited to participate in our nation’s reconciliation journey.
Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of us all as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples.
Make reconciliation part of your story and your future by getting involved in some of the National Reconciliation Week (NRW) activities suggested here.
Please RSVP to Ros Williams at Grenfell TAFE by Monday May 29 by 12 noon at rosslyn.williams3@tafensw.edu.au
Grenfell TAFE Western College is located at Cnr Rose and East Streets, GRENFELL.
Come along and join in the special occasion.
