Green light for library work

Cabonne Council is pleased to confirm that the Construction Certificate for the long-awaited Canowindra Library and Community Health Services (CHS) refurbishment project was approved in late April 2025.

With this milestone now achieved, the appointed contractor has commenced internal demolition work on-site last week, with construction to continue throughout 2025 and completion expected in early 2026.

As part of the project logistics, the Meals on Wheels service has been temporarily relocated to the Canowindra Sportsground to allow works to progress safely.

Two modified shipping containers, including cool rooms, will support the service’s continued operations during the refurbishment.

This important project has been in development since before the 2022 flood events, with funding secured in 2023 through the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, and the project co-funded by Council.

The planned works will deliver upgraded and modernised facilities for the Canowindra community, including a revitalised library and improved access to essential health and wellbeing services.

Mayor Kevin Beatty welcomed the news of the Construction Certificate approval and the upcoming construction phase.

“This project has been a long time in the making, and I know many in the community will be pleased to see work finally getting underway," he said.

"The refurbished library and community health spaces will be a great asset for Canowindra and the wider Cabonne community, bringing new life to important services and facilities that serve people of all ages.”

Cabonne Council thanks the community and service providers for their patience and cooperation as the project moves into the construction phase.
