Beautiful spring weather, well-prepared greens and $4200 total prize money were the essential ingredients that ensured Grenfell’s annual Classic Triples tournament, held at the weekend, was a huge success. Sponsored by Lion & Co, BCiB Insurance Brokers and Aston & Joyce P/L, the tournament attracted teams from a wide area including Gulgong, Blayney, Barmedman, Wallerawang, Forbes, Dubbo, Temora, Boorowa, Canowindra, Milthorpe, Canberra and, of course, Grenfell.

Taking out the $1500 first prize was a team led by Dave Hill from Canberra City, a former Grenfell bowler. His partners in the hard-earned win were Sam Brown (Grenfell) and Tony Barry from Canberra City. In second place was a Grenfell team comprising Barry Jones (skip), Clive Anderson and Scott Baker, third was Grenfell’s Ross Hunter (skip), Roger Baker and Barry Bradtke, fourth, a Milthorpe team skipped by Mark Rimmer, fifth Chris Grimson’s team from Boorowa, sixth was another Boorowa team led by Daryl Murphy, seventh was the Grenfell team of Warren Paine (skip), Rob Chambers and Nevin Hughes, and eighth prize went to another Grenfell team of Kerry Aston (skip), Rob Coleman and David Hancock. In Sunday’s remaining sixteen comp, the winners were a ‘young gun’ team from Dubbo comprising Matt Thompson, Jarrod Palmer and Ethan Hunter. Second prize money went to Barry Robinson’s team from Barmedman, third was Graeme Hunter (skip), James Hunter and Dylan McAlister, and fourth a Blayney team led by Wayne Eason. All players in the tournament received a beach towel, courtesy of Lion & Co.

Inter-Zone Championships: Blake Bradtke and Steve Galvin travelled to Port Macquarie last weekend representing Zone 4 in the 2017 Bowls NSW Inter-Zone Sides Championship. Unfortunately the Zone 4 sides bowed out in the first round on Saturday, held at the Port City Bowling Club. Zone 12 (Sydney South West) emerged as the Inter-Zone Champions, with Zone 13 (Sydney Central and Southern) runners-up.

Open Pairs at Molong: The David Wicks Annual Gala Open Pairs Tournament will be held at Molong on Saturday and Sunday, September 23-24. Total prize money is $5750 with the winners receiving $2000 ($1000 each). Dress is club uniforms or creams and the entry fee is $150 per team, which includes morning tea and lunch on both days. Entries close September 15. For more details contact Co-ordinator Steven Shannon on 0456 685 221.

Jackpot: This week you needed a score of -4 on end 14, on an even-numbered rink. With no winners the jackpot stands at $124.
