You’re invited to join the 2017 Bike Ride for Men’s Breast Cancer.
Most people aren’t aware that breast cancer can affect both women and men.
This truth became known to my family when our dear friend, Andrew Lynch, told us he had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Andrew fought bravely before losing his short battle and passing away in November 2010.
This loss was heartbreaking to Andrew’s family and friends.
The Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) will be highlighting breast cancer in men during their 2017 Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
To support the BCNA in these endeavours and to honour Andrew we are organising a bike ride from Templestowe in Melbourne, to Andrew’s home town of Grenfell, NSW where he is buried.
The 850km ride will commence in Templestowe on Sunday September 24, 2017 and finish in Grenfell on Saturday September 30, 2017.
The tentative route will see us staying at Seymour, Shepparton, Yarrawonga, Lockhart, Temora, Forbes and Grenfell as follows
• Sunday September 24 2017 - Templestowe to Seymour (135 kms)
• Monday September 25 - Seymour to Shepparton via Nagambie (124 kms)
• Tuesday September 26 - Shepparton to Yarrawonga Mulwala (92 kms)
• Wednesday September 27 - Yarrawonga to Lockhart (135 kms)
• Thursday September 28 - Lockhart to Temora (139 kms)
• Friday September 29 - Temora to Forbes (155 kms)
• Saturday September 30 - Forbes to Grenfell (70 kms)
Riders are invited to join us for one day, multiple days or the whole ride.
We will be organising ride jerseys and wind vests for those riding the whole week, as well as organising shared accommodation, breakfast and some snack foods (lunches and dinner generally at own cost).
The ride will be supported by volunteers in escort vehicles.
We have some sponsorship to help offset a small part of the costs of the ride but are also asking riders to contribute by way of a ride fee.
We are asking riders joining us for the entire week to contribute $250, or riders who are joining us for a shorter period to contribute $50 per day that they are with the ride.
Obviously, as well as having a great time out on the road, the fundraising we will be doing for BCNA will help them raise awareness of men’s breast cancer and help others overcome the challenges associated with breast cancer.
Therefore, we are also setting the challenge to riders to reach out to their families and social networks to hopefully raise $500 each.
Every dollar that we raise will be matched by the Pratt Foundation. I hope you can join us? If you are interested please let us know asap.
Please send your reply via email, or in person and we will send you further information as it develops.
This will be an incredible week of comradeship, engaging challenges, and personal inspiration.
It is an event not to be missed, and aside from the personal benefits, you will know that one week of your life (or even one day) may help an Australian man to face the battle of his life.
Our challenge is for one week, theirs can be for a lifetime. I look forward to hearing from you.
Cheers,
Wayne Heathcote
