Danny Joyce and Leigh Taylor have won the 2017 Winter Night Tennis Competition following the playing of Round 12, the final round on Tuesday evening at the Grenfell Tennis Centre. Congratulations to Danny and Leigh on this achievement.
Over the 12 rounds, Danny, in form and playing consistent tennis, accumulated a total of 295 games and won the A group from Charles Harvey 271 games. A top effort.
Grant Fisher, an early leader of the competition, finished up winning a total of 258 games.
Danny’s rounds were 27 games, 16, 25, 27, 28, 33, 17, 21, 32, 21, 22 and 26.
In the B group, there was a very close finish, when the clear leader, Leigh Taylor could only manage to add to his total just 15 games to finish the competition with a total of 282, edging out our mayor, Mark Liebich who won 28 games on Tuesday night to bring his total to 280 games- a very close result indeed.
Rod Freudenstein came in third place with a total of 258 games.
Leigh’s rounds were 28 games, 26, 25, 22, 16, 19, 26, 27, 32, 30, 16 and 15 games, while Mark’s rounds were 18, 23, 25, 27, 25, 21, 20, 22, 28, 21, 22 and 28 games.
McKELLAR AND WATT WIN FINAL ROUND
Stuart McKellar and Graham Watt were in great form to win the final round on Tuesday night with a total of 28 games.
They were on fire in the first three sets winning 7/1, 7/1, 5/3, then went down 3/5 to Michael Mitton and Arnold Brown.
They went back on the court to win their last set 6/2. Graham was a fill in for Mark Liebich.
Danny Joyce and Rod Freudenstein were next best, winning a total of 26 games for the final round.
Their sets were 5/3, 7/1, 4/4, 8/0, 2/6.
Michael Mitton, filling in for Charles Harvey played with Arnold Brown and they won a total of 23 games.
Scores were 3/5, 5/3, 4/4, 5/3, 6/2 and two pairs, Hugh Moffitt and Leigh Taylor and Matthew Clarke and John Walmsley won 15 games each.
Hugh and Leigh’s sets were 4/4,3/5, 3/5, 0/8, 5/3, while Matthew, a fill in for Grant Fisher and John’s sets were 4/4, 1/7, 4/4, 4/4, 2/6.
The other pair playing in the final round were Grahame Edwards and Pat Hazell who won a total of 13 games.
The 2017 Winter Night Competition was another great event for the men, favoured by the weather when no rounds were postponed.
