This Sunday at Lawson Park the Goannas and Girlannas will be in action against the Manildra Rhinos.
The Trundle Youth League boys will travel over to also take on the Rhinos.
Game times are as follows:
11.20am Youth League – Trundle v Manildra
12.40pm League Tag – Grenfell v Manildra
2.00pm First Grade – Grenfell v Manildra
Youth League sees the two top teams in the competition lining up against each other whereas in League Tag the undefeated Girlannas clash with the highly rated Manildra girls.
Last Sunday at Eugowra the Girlannas held their nerve to hold out the Geagles 14-6 in a tense, fast and competitive encounter and a repeat of that performance should see them edge out the Rhinos this Sunday.
The Goannas now sit outside the top five after losing in another high scoring affair against Eugowra 46-34 last weekend.
They will be desperate for the two competition points this Sunday against a Manildra outfit who are the equal top of the ladder and who easily accounted for the Goannas in the first round.
The Goannas have the firepower to win this crucial match but they will need to tighten up their defence and cut out their handling errors.
GOLDEN EAGLES
OUTLAST GOANNAS
Last Sunday at Eugowra the Grenfell Goannas were defeated 46-34 by the home team.
In the first 20 minutes of the match Eugowra had a glut of possession yet Grenfell were able to hold a 12-6 lead until the Eagles rattled off four unanswered tries and shot out to a 26-12 lead just before halftime.
The Goannas were able to go into halftime with momentum after they scored two late converted tries in the half and went to oranges only two points adrift of the hosts.
The early minutes of the second half were always going to be crucial to the outcome of this match and it was Eugowra who played the more consistent footy and they went to a seemingly match winning lead of 40-24 with less than 10 minutes left on the clock.
Grenfell came back with some classy attacking football and nearly stole the game away from Eugowra but a long range try from the Eagles in the dying seconds sealed the result and had the local crowd delirious with excitement and relief.
Best players for the Goannas were Steve Taylor, Josh Liebich, Sam Ingram and Mitch Stevens with Josh also being the Players Player.
Try scorers were Mena Aditagane, Sebastian Holz, Sam Ingram (2) and Phil Ingram with Mitch Stevens booting 5 goals from 6 attempts only missing one out wide late in the game when the kick had to be rushed.
Best of luck this weekend to the Goannas and Girlannas as they take on Manildra at home.
It would be great to see the Grenfell Goannas supporters come along to Lawson Park to cheer on the home side in what is sure to be an exciting afternoon of Rugby League.
