The Kindergarten and Year One class have settled into the term and are making great progress! In Religious Education this term, the students are learning to convey that they belong to their families and a community of faith (family, school and parish) - the Church. They are also developing an understanding that all people are loved by God, regardless of their faith, situation or nationality.

In English, we have been reading the story ‘The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane’. The children have been enthralled by the story and it has also been a great stimulus for their own writing. We have also been studying a range of other narratives, reviews, descriptions and explanations. At every opportunity, the students are given time to read in class, and it is great to see the students busily engaged in reading books. Just as important as reading are opportunities for writing. We have been writing and publishing our own stories, with some of the latest titles being The Power Rangers, The Colours of Flowers, and The Crocodile and the Platypus. Literacy groups have provided the students with hands-on opportunities to continue to build on their literacy skills. In Mathematics, the Kindergarten students have been learning to identify, continue, create and describe repeating patterns using shapes and objects, and make links between counting and repeating patterns. They have been learning about addition and making combinations for numbers to at least 10. They have also been learning to model subtraction and count backwards to subtract.
In addition to the fun learning taking place inside the Kindergarten and Year One classroom, the children have also been involved in a myriad of other activities, including the recent Athletics Carnival. The novelty events were the highlight for the younger students, who kept us all entertained displaying their talents in beanbag on head races, three-legged races, egg and spoon races, and potato sack races. K/1 have also been able to take part in touch football coaching clinics delivered by a representative from the Brumbies Football Club – a great experience!
