Jack Wighton, the Orange CYMS and Bloomfield Tigers talent, has agreed to a new deal with the Green Machine extending his stay in the nation’s capital until at least the end of the 2020 NRL season.
The club announced the new deal on the Raiders’ website on Tuesday, Wighton one of his side’s best during the early part of 2017.
The club will travel to Bathurst to take on Penrith at Carrington Park over the long weekend, Saturday June 10.
Wighton said he’s looking forward to continuing his career with the club he’s been at since Harold Matthews level and is keen to help the Raiders towards a premiership.
“I’m very excited and very happy to stay here in Canberra with the Raiders and I know we’ve got a really strong team here and great club,” Wighton said.
“We all want to work towards winning a premiership and I’m really looking forward to the next few seasons here.”
Making his debut for the Raiders in 2012, Wighton has played over 100 matches at NRL level and has represented both the Indigenous All-Stars and Country Origin teams.
Raiders CEO Don Furner said the re-signing of a talented Raiders junior was a huge boost for the club and Jack was a big part of the Raiders future.
“Jack is an extremely talented player who is maturing into a very consistent and established NRL player. We’re very happy he’s decided to remain with the Raiders,” Furner said. “He’s a big part of our plans as we build for the future and someone we believe is very important for our football club.”
