It is a busy time of the year for the Weddin Mountain Muster committee members but we are very keen to be gearing up for another great week in September. The AGM has been held with many people continuing on with their previous roles as well as others stepping up to fill positions. This year our executive committee members are Don Robinson (President), Virginia Drogemuller and Dave Freebody (Vice Presidents), Bec Maslin (Secretary) and Megan Taylor (Treasurer).

This year the Muster will begin on Sunday September 24 and continue until the Friday evening. While it seems like a long time away yet, preparations are very much underway. The riders are eagerly awaiting their information packs which include the all important registration paperwork. Due to high demand we often have a waiting list so it is a rush for many people to secure their position for the week of scenic rides around the district.
The next major task for the committee is to get on our horses and finalise the 5 rides we will use this year. The choice of rides can vary year to year due to weather conditions. We have several to choose from: Adelargo, Bald Hills, Eualdrie, Quandong and Bogolong as well as the Town Ride which is a favourite for both the participants and wider Grenfell community. While we always plan to have plenty of time to schedule our pre-rides, wild winter weather, soggy paddocks and other commitments make it difficult to get all 12+ committee riders in attendance. Luckily, we enjoy these days as much as the event and they are a critical task in ensuring the safety of all horses and riders when the Muster rolls around.
Other vital preparations include tallying up, ordering and packaging the merchandise, submitting traffic management plans, ordering food, relaying information to our riders, collecting items for a fabulous raffle, maintaining contact with landowners and preparing the showground not to mention getting our horses ready for around 100kms worth of work during the Muster week! It goes without saying that to pull this massive task off, it takes a large team with members who all chip in when needed and work effectively together.
