News has come to light that due to the new doctor’s current commitments in outback Queensland and family commitments over the Christmas period, the proposed appointment for the town’s new full time doctor will not take place until early January 2017.
A number of residents are frustrated by the delay as many people were awaiting the December 5 date to make appointments and renew scripts, residents are also very keen to see the new doctors arrival as they understand how essential it is for him to begin practicing locally as soon as possible.
Geoff Earl, President of the Grenfell Men’s Shed and campaigner for a second doctor to our shire, says that he has had many concerned residents relay their disappointment to him.
“Whilst we await the new doctor’s arrival there are many members of the community who will need to continue to make other arrangements such as travelling out of town for a simple script, this will create extra expenses that these residents don’t need right on Christmas time” says a dissatisfied Mr Earl.
Residents of the community are understandably concerned as this is not the first time that there has been a delay, in fact there have been considerable delays since the previous tenants vacated the premises almost six months ago.
Weddin Shire General Manager, Glenn Carroll, would like to encourage residents to be patient.
“The four week delay is unavoidable due to the new doctor's current commitments in Western Queensland until mid December, as well as his family obligations over the Christmas holiday period. The new doctor is very much looking forward to beginning his practice full time on January 9 at the Weddin Street Medical Centre.” said Mr Carroll.
Appointments can be made from Friday January 6, 2017 between 9am –12pm on 02 6343 2494.
