A distressed property owner posted photos to Facebook of sheep that were allegedly suffocated while being handled by Elders agents, and has notified the RSPCA.
An RSPCA spokesperson said yesterday that they were aware of the incident, and that investigations were ongoing.
The spokesperson asked anyone who had information to contact the RSPCA.
Farmer Matthew Fuge posted last week; “In 30 years we have never managed to smother sheep in the yards.”
“These … killed six to eight before the truck was half full.”
The farm’s more than 2000 sheep were being loaded under a Commonwealth Bank seizure of the farm.
“This was a bank administration ambush with 11 hours notice,” Mr Fuge said on Facebook.
“The farmer saw what had happened and was in tears … walked off in disgust.”
Mr Fuge’s Facebook post had been shared more than 21,000 times by lunchtime yesterday.
On the post there were numerous comments in support of farmers, as well as disgust in the manner in which the animals were treated.
The Forbes Advocate has been unable at time of print to get comments from Elders or speak with the family.
