Henry Lawson is recognised as one of Australia's foremost writers. Henry is seen as a good Aussie bloke, the mate of the country man. Henry writes with such understanding about the people of the bush because he is one of us.
He also spent some time in gaol.
Henry spent time in gaol for drunkenness and for not paying child support.
Henry's life was tough. Even so while he was in gaol Henry still found time to write.
He would write love letters for the other inmates to send to their wives and sweethearts.
Let's continue the wonderful art of letter writing for the festival. There will be a Love Letter room in the Masonic Lodge, along with the Photographic Competition and Exhibition.
All you have to do is write a love letter. It can be anonymous or signed, but handwritten would be best!
Just drop it into the Festival office any time before the long weekend.
Or better still; take it up to the Masonic Lodge over the long weekend and pin your letter to the love letter wall yourself.
This could be your chance to declare your love, or earn some brownie points fellas.
Male, female, young or old, write a letter to tell someone how you feel about them!
And remember, this is a family friendly festival.
