Dame Marie Bashir when presenting Peter with his prestigious award said “Grenfell is very dear to me.” Dame Marie visited Grenfell in her youth to spend time with her relatives, the Mellick family.
Peter was accompanied to Government House by his wife Mary, daughters Rachael Power and Emily Douglass and son Jack.
The family enjoyed having their photograph taken in the historic grounds of Government House following the presentation when celebrating this great achievement.

Twelve intrepid young women gathered on a Saturday in mid November to help women in developing countries.
With scant knowledge of what lay ahead, they entered the cavernous TAFE building.
Some stayed for a couple of hours and some stayed all day. The result of like-minded women working to help other women was purely inspiring.
A very productive day saw lots of cutting and sewing, interspersed with plenty of chat, laughter and even some pensive moments.
This is an ongoing project, with some taking fabric home to cut out and then passing it on to another for sewing. Some ladies have organized their own sewing day to carry on making components for the kits. Our next planned community sewing bee will be in May.
Please visit the daysforgirls.org website or ring Hayley on 63431127 if you would like to become involved.
The group is looking for donations of flannelette fabric, good quality cotton fabric, undies, washers and soap. Thanks again ladies for your brilliant efforts.
