After finishing third on the competition ladder the Grenfell Panthers U13’s will have a shot at a Grand Final spot when they take on competition minor premiers Griffith this Sunday at Albury in the major semi final. Grenfell coach Rob Taylor said “ the Panthers will go into the match as underdogs, but with a positive mindset and focus on our strengths, anything is possible on the day. In the knowledge that we have beaten Griffith already once this season, and hopefully boosted by the return of ace defender Frazer Ryder this weekend, the boys will be in with a chance”.

Last Sundays finals match against Albury started well for the Panthers when we had the upper hand early in the match . Rhys Martens set the platform scoring two tries within the first five minutes, with a great display of agility and athleticism to put us in front, both were converted by Matt Gault. However our lead was short lived and the steamers came right back at us with some explosive ball running and great recycling skills. Strong defence from Will Bucknell and Jai Purdie were a feature of the first half.
However as Grenfell were playing a man down with only 14 players available, the Albury boys began to wear us down and stretch us out wide. Injuries throughout the game to Rhys and Stirl meant at stages we were down to 12 on 15 and with Albury having a bench full of reserves they really exploited the numbers advantage. Rhys kept us in the game scoring two more tries and saving several from being scored with his best defensive display of the year.
However Albury were finding easy metres and exploiting our defensive lapses to pile on the points in the second half and run away with a comfortable win. Tom Robinson and Stirling Taylor again worked tirelessly with courageous defensive efforts.
