The Club was very lucky with the weather, two cracking frosts and two sunny days after a wet and miserable week leading up to the Carnival.
It was a small carnival this time with only ten teams and nearly twelve subies (under 12’s), due to the Darwin Nationals.
However, teams from Oberon, Harden, Tumut, Orange, Raglan, Hall, Canberra and Young participated in the event at Grenfell.
Results:
All Subies received a medallion, whip and halter:
Best & Fairest Subie:
Male: Colly Thomas - Tumut.
Female: Felicity Webb - Oberon.
B Grade winners: Tumut 2
Runners up: Young 2 - Young 2 beat Tumut 2 in their game but were then beaten by a goal countback by two points.
B Grade Best & Fairest:
Male - Darcy Siblery - Young.
Female - Georgie Donaldson - Oberon.
A Grade winners: Tumut 1
Runners Up: Young 2
Best & Fairest A Grade:
Male - Murray Thomas - Tumut
Female - Laura Beer - Tumut
Overall Horse and Rider Combination: James Stewart - Tumut
The last game on Sunday afternoon was between the two winning teams in the round robin yet to play - Young 1 and Tumut 2. It was a fast exciting game to watch with both teams being even until the last chukka when Tumut ended up winning 14-10. Young played hard throughout the game with five out of the six horses in the Young team being first seasoned mounts which looks very promising for future Polocrosse ponies playing A Grade.
A very special thank you must go to all the sponsors: Grenfell Commodities, Grenfell Hardware, Grenfell Caltex, CRT Grenfell, Beaurepaires Grenfell, Rob Ricketts – Grenfell, McClintocks Grenfell, Phil Hargaves – Grenfell, CRT Young, T & D’s Young, Giddy Up Gags/Bits – Young, Tamb & Seed Young.
Also - Thanks to the Grenfell Racecourse committee and the Grenfell community and their great facilities. We look forward to running bigger carnivals next year. Last weekend was certainly a very successful test run.
