On Wednesday, October 25 we were thrilled to invite our Kindergarten transition students for 2024 into our school. With a 'magic' theme, the students participated in lots of fun activities including listening to magic books, making magic wands and enjoying some of Kindergarten teacher Mr Kilby's magic tricks!

The students were introduced to their buddies from Year 5 to assist them as they become familiar with their new school. These students will continue their partnership next year for activities such as buddy reading and Easter Hat making.

There are a lot more great activities planned for the upcoming transition visits, including a cooking lesson as an introduction to our Kitchen Garden program.

By all accounts it was a great success, staff and student buddies thoroughly enjoyed the day, and feedback from kinder students for 2024 has been very positive. If you have a child beginning kindergarten in 2024, it is not too late to join our transition program to see what Grenfell Public School has to offer. We can't wait to see our transition students again in the coming weeks!

SRC Halloween Fun Day

On Monday, October 30 the Grenfell Public School SRC hosted a Halloween Fun Day. Students were able to dress up in their favourite costumes. There was a best dressed costume competition, a lolly guessing competition and a special treat lucky dip. On Wednesday the canteen put on a special Halloween lunch of a 'Finger in a bun' (hot dog with sauce).

Stage 2 Excursion

On Wednesday I got up early to leave for our Canberra Excursion. Our first stop was to Australia's National Museum. We were divided into two groups and explored the different rooms. There was a talk about Aboriginal tools.

Next, we went to Questacon. It was awesome! There were marimbas, pipes that suck up materials and spit it out again and an enormous slide. Questacon was great!

The next stop was the Brumby's Stadium. We had a man named Tyson and he showed us around and we met the Brumby's Under 16s Team and saw them train. It was awesome!

After the stadium we went to our accommodation and had a lovely dinner. I chose the chicken pasta and coleslaw and it was delicious! We had a special room that was designated just for our group. We played UNO and Skip-bo along with some fun group games. Then we watched Ninja Turtles and got ready for bed.

On Thursday morning we got up and had bacon and eggs. We packed the bus. Our first stop was the art gallery. We split into smaller groups. My favourite part was looking up at the 10m long fishing net that was made by Aboriginal people. The people could catch fish and eels with the net.

We went to the Abortorium which was amazing. We had a look at the plants, did a tour and played a game. I really enjoyed looking at all the cacti.

On the way home we stopped off at Boorowa park. It was enormous and my favourite piece of equipment was the spinning chairs.

The Stage 2 excursion was so much fun and it was great to spend time doing things with my friends in a new place.

Stage 3 Excursion

On Monday morning I got up at 5:30am and left for Sydney at 6am. The bus trip was pretty funny and fun. We finally arrived at Bear Island. At first, we got into two groups and had a tour of the island. After the island we went to our accommodation at YHA. It was pretty cool! We stayed there for a while and got unpacked and organised before heading to have a pizza dinner under the Sydney harbour bridge. We went back and went to bed (kind of! ;-0 )

On Tuesday we went on a tour of 'The Rocks'. There were heaps of old building and shops and we learnt all about the history which was pretty cool. Next, we made our way to Darling Harbour park which was massive. We had lunch there and played and do not forget the Maccas and ice-cream! After lunch Mrs Forde had a surprise for us... a visit to the aquarium! It was so much fun with heaps of cool and weird animals. At night we walked over the harbour bridge. It was so scary but the lights of the city were amazing.

Wednesday came and we packed our things at the YHA and went we got on the Captain Cook Cruises across the harbour to Taronga zoo. We watched the seal show and a bird show and had a good look around before travelling down to Wollongong.

On Thursday we went to the Science Space place. At first we went to a 'Space Cinema' and looked at the planets, stars and learnt lots of facts about them. You could lean back and see the solar system on the roof. Then we went the bottom floor and there were lots of practical activities to teach us about Space and electricity. We moved to the top floor and I found out that I can throw a ball 95km.

Friday was our last day so we packed up and went to Jamberoo Action Park. There were so many great rides! The scariest would have to be the Stinger. You had to stand on a platform and there was a countdown then the platform opened, and you dropped down.

There was a very tired group of kids that travelled back home to Grenfell at the end of day! We all had a wonderful time.
