On Saturday the Woodbridge Cup representative teams travel over to Harden where they will clash with their George Tooke Shield counterparts.
The League Tag match starts at 1.15pm and First Grade at 2.30pm.
George Tooke Shield is a 10 team competition and includes, Cootamundra, Burrangong, Harden, Boorowa, Binalong, Bungendore, Crookwell and three teams from Canberra.
Grenfell would like to wish Taylor Keppie, Zoe Gavin and Alicia White all the best as they will be lining up with the Woodbridge girls whilst Dan Barclay (Coach) and Steve O'Byrne (Manager) will continue their long term association with the First Grade representative team.
Last Sunday Grenfell ventured out to Molong and were able to come away with wins in Youth League and League Tag but in First Grade they were edged out in the last 10 minutes by the Bulls. The match reports are as follows.
YOUTH LEAGUE
Much to the delight of coach Matthew Tozer the Grenfell Youth League boys notched up their first win of the season when they defeated the Bulls 38-26 in a topsy turvy contest.
The Goannas led 22-12 at half-time however the Bulls came out strongly after the break and had all the momentum when they went to a 26-22 lead.
At this point it was feared the young Goannas might collapse in the second half like they did a few weeks earlier at Manildra but instead they finished the stronger of the two teams to come away with a well deserved win.
This win was full of merit as Grenfell only had 12 players and so it was a 12 aside match whereas the hosts had a full squad of 20.
Grenfell were best served by Dylan King who scored 3 tries and was in everything, Michael Smith (1 try), Caleb Haddin (1 try) and Bailey Edwards.
The other try scorers were Chris McDonald and Clay Cussack and Jaxon Greenaway rounded off the scoring with 5 conversions off his left boot.
LEAGUE TAG
The Girlannas were able to come away with a solid 16-4 win after leading 12-4 at half-time.
Grenfell scored early but they were quickly put back on their heels after Molong speedster Katie Fulwood scored a long distance solo try.
The Grenfell girls settled and through their experience around the rucks and good tagging they were able to wrestle back control of the match and go to the break with a handy 8 point buffer.
A scoreless second half looked to be on the cards until the Girlannas scored late to wrap up what turned out to be a very competitive match.
A negative to come out of this match for Grenfell was an ankle injury to key outside back Zoe Gavin and hopefully it doesn't put Zoe on the sidelines for too long.
The players player could not be split between Anna Brenner and Rachel Causer and the other players to standout for the visitors were Alicia White and Chelsea Anderson.
Grenfell's 4 tries came from Zoe Gavin, Faith White, Anna Brenner and Lily Holmes.
FIRST GRADE
Molong scored a couple of early tries to take an early 10 nil lead however by half-time the Goannas had worked their way back into the match trailing by 2 at the break 12-14.
In the second half Molong were first to score and when the Goannas returned serve with a converted try we were all tied up at 18 all and it was game on.
The Bulls were able to finish the stronger of the two teams and with a couple of late tries they were able to wrap up the game 32-18.
Grenfell supporters should be proud of the effort put in by their team as all the players tried hard for the full eighty minutes and they only went down late in the match against the highly rated Bulls Outfit who also had the home ground advantage.
For Grenfell Travis Bryant had a huge game in both attack and defence picking up the players player as well as scoring 2 tries and he was well backed up by Toby Barons, Josh Bateman, and Michael Smith.
The remaining points for Grenfell came from a Jarryd Foley try and 2 goals to Toby Barons and a one to Josh Bateman.
