In the Southern Region police issued 63 restrain infringements, 26 mobile phone infringements, 1322 speed infringements, 23,634 breath tests, 58 drink driving charges.

There were also two fatal crashes resulting in the death of four people and 46 reported major crashes resulting in 20 people being injured.

In the Western Region police issued 67 restraint infringements, 12 mobile phone infringements, 744 speed infringements, conducted 14,910 breath tests, charged 39 drink driving offenders and had 22 major crashes with seven people injured.

Easter Operation 2021 began at 12.01am on Thursday 1 April 2021 and ended at 11:59pm Monday 5 April 2021.

Double-demerit points were in force throughout the period for speeding, seatbelt, mobile phone and motorcycle helmet offences.

Officers were also targeting other high-risk driver behaviour, including the Four Ds: drink, drug, dangerous and distracted driving.

Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander, Assistant Commissioner Karen Webb, said the despite the warning officers charged 310 people across the state with drink driving.

"It's disappointing that there are still people in the community who aren't getting the message and are putting themselves and others at risk with reckless behaviour," Assistant Commissioner Webb said.

"Our message to road users is that police can be anywhere, anytime throughout the year; and we'll be targeting high-risk behaviour, including drink, drug, dangerous and distracted driving."

Five people died in crashes on NSW roads during the Easter Operation four of which occurred in the Southern Region, two more than last year.

A total of 78 people have lost their lives on NSW roads to date this year, compared to 84 the same time last year.
