The mental health partnership event between the Rotary Club of Grenfell and the local branch of Active Farmers was held at the Quandialla Pool on Sunday February 28.
The weather was as good as you could have ever hoped for and the event made for a really pleasant afternoon.
Active Farmers founder Ginny Stevens and local Active Farmers contact and personal trainer Kim Broomby along with the Rotary Club of Grenfell's representatives, Ron and Jan McLelland opened proceedings shortly after 2pm on Sunday with some things to say about Active Farmers and Rotary before the "fun and games" began.
Kim had organised various "competitions" but the main emphasis on everything for the day was that whatever you did it was bound to result in fun.
A bellyflop comp was the first battle waged, followed by a ball gathering comp with some highly-rated (but scarce) balls hidden among the many others to be rounded by the participating teams.
A Boogie Board race and a highly entertaining Mat Race were also held.
Following on from the pool events were land games, some of which were a six-legged race and a throwing comp before the barbecue was fired up and a sausage sizzle was cooked and served by Ron and Jan.
In her address at the official opening, Ginny - who had travelled for around two-and-a-half hours that morning to be present - said she was only too pleased to attend for such a brilliant little community that Quandialla is.
Ginny said not only do the Quandialla Active Farmers group take weekly fitness and aqua classes, but they are always thinking of other ways to support and educate their community, such as providing morning tea at the Quandialla Public School when the Ride for Resilience went through, as one of her examples.
She also gave sincere thanks and praise to Kim Broomby for the dedicated efforts Kim puts into her community - and which she also does more broadly in the district.
Ginny also remarked that while there are many challenges in life we can't control - such as weather, commodity prices, the way farming families become more isolated as properties become bigger, poor access to health services among other things - there is something we can do, and that is to look out for our community.
On behalf of the Grenfell Rotary Club, Jan McLelland said how pleased the Grenfell club were to sponsor the event, along with Active Farmers.
Jan also said that, in this Rotary year, two of the main objectives are to support health - and mental health in particular - and also to support youth.
The Quandialla Pool Fun Day is the first of three mental health partnerships, with the second being to supply resources which will go into The Henry Lawson High School's Wellbeing Room.
A third yet-to-be confirmed event is for further down the track, once all funding for it is finalised.
Jan also referred to the fact that Rotary in Australia has an excellent record in the health area, referring to the national, not-for-profit organisation of Australian Rotary Health and its proud record and the four main areas of its focus - Mental Health research, General Health research, Indigenous Health Scholarships and Rural Medical and Nursing Scholarships.
She also mentioned the fact that 2021 is a special year for Rotary in Australia, being its Centenary in April this year. The very first club in Australia was Melbourne.
Jan thanked the Active Farmers representatives, Ginny and Kim for their combined effort with the Rotary Club of Grenfell to bring the event at Quandialla Pool to fruition.
She also said that, even with the sad loss which had occurred in their community the past week, it was very much hoped everyone present would have a relaxing afternoon and that she and Ron were very pleased to be present on behalf of the Rotary Club of Grenfell.
As the locals said their goodbyes at the conclusion of the afternoon, they voiced their appreciation for the event and looked forward to repeating such an activity.
