Played at the WACA in Perth, Hunt brought up his 100 during the second session of day one played on Thursday last week.
Batting first, South Australia declared at 8/510 during day two, thanks largely to a 186-run third wicket partnership between opener Hunt (109) and his captain Travis Head (223).
It was the innings Hunt had been searching for this Sheffield Shield season following scores of 57, 30, 46, 50, 80, 19 and 41.
The 24-year-old brought up his 100 off 157 deliveries and hit 17 boundaries during his innings of 109.
While Hunt departed soon after passing his century, Head continued to pile on the runs reaching his maiden Sheffield Shield double century on day two.
The match ended in a thrilling draw after Western Australia declared at 5/409 thanks to centuries from Cameron Bancroft (126) and Cameron Green (168 not out).
South Australia declared at 9/230 in their second innings leaving less than a day's play to pick up all 10 Western Australian wickets.
The match went down to the final ball with Western Australia hanging on at 9/148.
Hunt scored 24 in the second innings. South Australia will host Nathan Lyon and NSW Blues in the next round of the Sheffield Shield beginning March 6.
Lyon, from Young, picked up his fourth first class 10-wicket haul against Victoria recently.
The Blues played Victoria twice in four-day games during the final two weeks of February. While Victoria won the first, Lyon managed 10 wickets in the match including best match figures of 6/21.
The second match was reduced due to rain and the match was drawn. Blues internationals Pat Cummins, David Warner and Lyon all flew to Adelaide during the week for a Marsh One-Day Cup game against the Redbacks on Thursday. Hunt could face the challenge of opening against one of the games leading quicks in Cummins in the Shield game beginning Saturday.
Steve Smith and Josh Hazlewood were not named in Blues limited overs game.
