SURPRISE 60TH: On Saturday night October 10, close family and friends gathered at Arramagong East to celebrate the surprise 60th birthday for Graeme Martin. A lot of planning and a few white lies along the way - but the night was well worth it.

Graeme got a huge surprise when the family finally got him there to see everyone gathered. A lovely meal was prepared by Donna and Andrew Robinson along with helpers Georgia and Greg.
Graeme thanked his many close friends and family for being there with him. Graeme's oldest granddaughter Maddison made a speech and read a poem which made all laugh. Thanks Maddie.
Alison Barton, a very close friend of Rachel's made and decorated the birthday cake.
A great night catching up and celebrating was had by all.
70TH BIRTHDAY: Mary Fanning celebrated her special '0' birthday with family at home on Monday evening November 9.
Mary said "I would like to thank my beautiful family for spending the day with me. Thank you, Greg, Daniel, Mel and my beautiful grandchildren for organizing a lovely family dinner and cake, I love you all. Thank you to family and friends for phone calls and messages".
REMEMBRANCE DAY 2020: The Grenfell RSL Sub-Branch conducted a Commemorative Service November 11 (COVID-19 style) at the Memorial Park.
100 people were permitted to attend adhering to the restrictions.
Ex-Service women, Teddy Simpson WAAAF who joined up in 1943, served in Sydney, Melbourne and Townsville and Eunice Clarke who joined the AWAS when she was 18 in 1944 and was stationed at Moorebank in NSW and then at the 8th Advanced Workshop in Victoria as a transport driver testing motor vehicle tyres for all the big companies as well as Margaret Knight WRAAF, RSL Chaplain who joined in Sydney in 1960 and served in Melbourne and Adelaide and from 1962 -1965 served at HQ Provo unit in Melbourne were in attendance.
Kath Smith, WAAAF who joined up in Deniliquin and served in Melbourne in 1942 was not in attendance is now a resident of the Grenfell MPS. I believe a commemorative service was also held at the MPS.
You will notice that the gardens/roundabouts have displays of the silhouettes of soldiers, crosses and metal poppies courtesy of the Grenfell Garden Club which were gifted to the Grenfell RSL Sub-branch.
GRENFELL ART GALLERY: The next exhibition "McCue and Mackay Kindred Spirits" by Kathleen McCue and Catherine Mackay will commence with the official opening on Friday November 27.
Due to social distancing regulations of one person per 4 meters square the gallery is limited to the number of people who may attend the opening, making RSVP's essential.

AUSTRALIA DAY AWARDS: Interested persons and organisations are invited to make nominations for the Weddin Shire Australia Day 2021 Awards.
Categories are Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, Community Event/Organisation of the Year, Community Achievement Awards in any category.
Achievement Award - each secondary and primary school in the Shire and HSC Academic Award - Henry Lawson High School.
Nomination forms are available at Council's Administration Office as well as on Council's website www.weddin.nsw.gov.au/council/forms. Nominations will be received up until Friday December 11 2020.
SINCERE SYMPATHY: Sympathy is extended to the families who have lost loved recently including John Henry Best and Betty Dixon who passed away on October 06. Betty's funeral is Monday November 16 at 11am. Due to the current restrictions surrounding Covid-19, funeral attendees are limited to 100 people. If you wish to attend, please contact Penrose Funerals to be added to the attendance list.
Sympathy is also extended to the family of former resident Fred Paul who passed away at Pembroke Lodge, Minto on Friday November 6. Fred will be remembered as a hard working member of the Grenfell Probus Club and a member of Lodge St Andrew.
I have had a request re Eulogies. As it has been difficult for many to attend funerals during the isolation/numbers period and you would like to have the eulogy of your loved one printed in the Grenfell Record, just email/contact me and I will forward it to the Record for publication.
