Central Tablelands Water
At their meeting in Grenfell on October 14, the Members of Central Tablelands Water County Council re-elected unopposed Cr David Somervaille, representing Blayney Shire Council, as Chairman and Cr Kevin Walker, representing Cabonne Council, as Deputy Chairman, until the local government elections in September 2021.
Both Cr Somervaille and Cr Walker are serving their seventh term as Chairman and Deputy Chairman respectively.
"Thank you for showing your support in our leadership for the next 12 months," Cr Somervaille, who is also the water portfolio chair of the Central NSW Joint Organisation, said.
"Cr. Walker and I have been Chairman and Deputy Chairman for quite some time.
"This Council has a long history of the Chairman and Deputy Chairman for long periods, with previous partnerships serving for decades, and we're grateful for your support."
CTW is a water supply authority constituted under NSW Local Government legislation. First proclaimed in 1944 the county embraces the Shires of Blayney, Cabonne and Weddin providing drinking water to these communities. CTW currently has approximately 6,000 water connections and provides potable water to 15,000 consumers in 14 towns and villages.
Mobile Service Centre to visit Grenfell
Grenfell and several Riverina towns will have quick and easy access to essential Federal Government services when the Mobile Service Centre (MSC) known as Golden Wattle visits over the next two weeks.
Member for Riverina and Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack said Golden Wattle would roll into Cootamundra, Temora, Grenfell, Boorowa and Harden between 26 October and 5 November.
The MSC will be in Grenfell on Monday 2 November, from 10am to 4pm and Tuesday 3 November, from 9am to 4pm, located opposite the library on Main Street.
Mr McCormack is encouraging Weddin residents to take advantage of this opportunity to obtain tailored support and information about Government services.
"Mobile Service Centres are a great opportunity for people in our community to meet face-to-face with staff if they require more personalised or intensive support," Mr McCormack said.
"Staff on board Golden Wattle can help locals with Centrelink claims, Medicare registrations and online services.
"You can still do most of your Centrelink and all of your Medicare business online, and staff can support locals to make sure they're confident in completing their business online.
"You don't need an appointment, and it's free - so anyone who needs help or has a question should visit the team aboard Golden Wattle.
"All services will be offered with strict COVID-19 safety precautions in place."
Golden Wattle is one of two 20-tonne trucks run by Services Australia which have travelled more than 900,000 kilometres and been to more than 5,000 communities.
Golden Wattle staff have delivered Centrelink, Medicare and Child Support services to almost 160,000 customers since 2006.
Minister for Government Services Stuart Robert said Golden Wattle provided tailored support and information to people in rural communities.
"Mobile Service Centres reinforce the Australian Government's commitment to delivering the best services to all Australians, regardless of where they live," Minister Robert said.
"These trucks are purpose-built to replicate a service centre, complete with the latest technology.
"During the Black Summer bushfires that devastated parts of this region, our Mobile Service Centre staff were on the ground to deliver critical support to people living in isolated bushfire-affected communities.
"Visiting this region again will ensure communities can continue to access the services they need, in what has been a very difficult year for many Australians."
Crackdown on puppy farms welcomed
Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke has welcomed the creation of a dedicated squad to weed out companion animal puppy factories and rogue operators.
Ms Cooke said the announcement from Minister Marshall was a clear sign the days were numbered for illegal operators who put profit over puppy welfare.
"More and more people have been looking for pets during this pandemic, and it's so important breeding is properly policed so people know their pets come from ethical homes," Ms Cooke said. "There is no place in the companion animal industry for people who aren't doing the right thing."
The Taskforce will consist of four new RSPCA inspectors (six in total) who will spend their time inspecting breeding facilities across the State and ensuring they meet animal welfare requirements.
They'll work with NSW Police, who will be monitoring online and social media platforms to help root out the mistreatment of animals.
