In one of the more apt results, Townsend won his own race, the Stan Townsend Leading Local Pace in celebration of his fantastic 2019/20 season, and the Alectown based trainer has been on fire over the past few months in particular.
In the first race of the day, MOREARTSTHANCLASS ($3.40, Brett Hutchings) broke the maiden in start 10 for Parkes' Malcolm Hutchings after four minor placings.
The filly led the whole way from a good draw, and held on to defeat the fast finishing LILMAC ($1.60 place, Jason Turnbull) by a neck.
The first of Townsend's wins came in the Gabbys Sportstar Horse Of The Year Pace with CULLENS MAORI ($5.00, Nathan Townsend), who showed very impressive gate speed from out wide to win by a head over GOLDEN ZARA ($1.55 place, Blake Micallef).
Hewitt got on the board in the Brett Hutchings Leading Driver Pace with short-priced favourite SPORTY MICKILLA ($1.45, Mark Hewitt) pulling away powerfully in the shadows of the post to defeat LLANFAIR RHIANNON ($3.90 place, Graham Betts) and BRADNESS ABUELA ($1.45 place, Jason Turnbull).
The winner is a three-year-old gelding by SPORTSWRITER USA out of MICKILLA LASS and is owned by M W Hunter, A E Johnston and was bred by M W Hunter, A E Johnston and R T Lennane.
Hewitt was in again in the winner's circle in the Egmont Park Stud Pace when MIGHTY JOE ($2.30, William Cassell) completely brained the field, with Parkes driver Cassell leading all the way to win by a comfortable 5.8 metres.
In 10 starts on the Parkes track, the gelding, out of Powerful Pam, has recorded two wins and four minor placings.
The winner is another three year old, this time by ROLL WITH JOE USA out of POWERFUL PAM and is owned and was bred by Geoffrey Cole.
In Townsend's tribute race, BO YANG ($1.75, Nathan Townsend) returned from a five month spell; cruising to an easy win over NEGATIVE NANCY ($5.00 place, Graham Betts) by a couple of lengths.
It is the gelding's first race for Townsend after spending his previous 18 starts racing in Victoria and he was well supported after opening at $2.10 before firming into $1.75.
Canowindra pacer SAILALONG SINBAD (Darryl Fliedner) was well supported making it back to back minor placings at its second run back from a break at $3.90 and finished third in the event, 7.7 metres from the winner.
Cowra trainer Shannon Rye's UROC N WARRIOR finished sixth to the Mat Rue trained and driven SIXTHREENOTOUT at the meeting.
Next Sunday, harness racing heads back to Dubbo for regular afternoon racing.
The next meeting in Parkes will be on Sunday, October 25.
