The competition is a regional event made up of six clubs from Bathurst/Lithgow (Panorama Platypi), Orange/Blayney (The Vipers), Dubbo/Parkes (Wiradjuri Goannas), Mudgee/Gulgong (Midwest Brumbies), Castlereagh Cup teams like Gilgandra, Coonamble etc (The Cougars), and the 10 Woodbridge Cup teams (The Woodies).
Each club fields four teams in the Under 14s, 16s, 18s, and opens with the matches being full contact 13 aside Rugby League.
The Platypi, Woodies, and Brumbies also have Under 13s development teams who will be playing matches against each other during the season.
The format for the season is that each club will play each other once during a five-week season with the top four teams in each age division going through to the Finals.
On the weekend of November 14 and 15 the semi-finals will see the top team in each division playing the team that finished fourth and the teams that finish second and third matched up against each other.
The winners of these semi-finals will progress to the Grand Final to be held on Sunday, November 22.
There has been tremendous growth in this Western competition in the last two years.
With the exception of a couple of the Under 18s teams every club has full squads, and, in some cases, they have been full for at least a month and have had to turn away prospective players.
The first round of the draw is as follows:
Panorama Platypi v Vipers at Wallerawang.
Castlereagh Cougars v Wiradjuri Goannas at Coonamble.
Woodbridge v Midwest Brumbies at Grenfell.
Grenfell will be hosting two rounds of the competition at Henry Lawson Oval this season when they welcome the Brumbies on Sunday, October 11 and the Vipers on Sunday, November 8.
The game times for the Brumbies games are, Under 13s (10.00am), 14s (11.10am), 16s (12.20pm), 18s (1.40pm), and Opens (3.00pm).
This season the Grenfell Goannas Senior and Junior clubs will be represented by Alana O'Loughlin, Emily Brenner, Emily Edwards, and Linda Hucker (Under 14s), Lily Holmes, Taylor Keppie, and Tahnee Purdie (Under 16s), Capryhse Lawler, Faith White, and Jayde Hundy (Under 18s), Caitlin Dixon, and Zoe Milne (Opens).
In the coaching ranks Grenfell will be represented by Jamie O'Loughlin who is in charge of the under 14s with assistance from Anthony Edwards.
