Mayor Liebich said it is indeed an honour to be the Mayor of the Weddin Shire Council.
It is indeed an honour to be the Mayor of the Weddin Shire Council.
- Clr Mark Liebich
Heading into his ninth year as Mayor he said one of his highlights have been leading the team that saved the Weddin Shire from amalgamation.
It was refreshing to receive the phone call from Katrina Hodgkinson advising me they weren't going to amalgamate us...What a breath of fresh air.
We have continued to punch above our weight. It's been an honour to fight for our community.
Following a couple of failed grant applications for our swimming pool I organised a meeting be setup in Parliament House to push our point. Result the next application was successful and we have a brand new pool.
Also following a couple of failed grant applications regarding the new medical centre I setup a meeting in Parliament House Canberra with the Minister for Health. It was great to receive the phone call advising we received $950,000 towards our new Medical Centre.
We have also received $3.2 million from the Stronger Country Communities Fund which has gone towards so many of our sporting facilities, village Halls and our new grandstand
Following continuous lobbying to our Deputy Prime Minister for Drought Hardship Michael McCormack arrived in Grenfell to present us with $1 million in drought funding. This was to be followed by a second $1 million drought funding and another array of projects funded.
Following lobbying to Steph Cooke $2 million was also forthcoming. $1 million toward the Main St and $1 million toward connectivity which we are currently working on.
The upgrade of facilities in and around Grenfell has been incredible. We have also received a new Ambulance station and a new TAFE.
It was another proud day when Minister Melinda Pavey turned up with Steph Cooke to give us $12.3 million dollars for a new sewerage treatment works.
We are also about to start the Main St with some of this funding.
Bogolong Dam planning is also well underway
I believe in forward planning and our team of councillors are brilliant. We are so lucky to have such a diverse team. I'd also like to thank the staff of the Weddin Shire Council for administering these projects, we have a great team of staff
It's a privilege to be the Mayor and I take pride in being a quiet achiever.
Our nice quiet community and all our brilliant facilities will make Grenfell the place to be
Thankyou Grenfell
