"Our Pop"; Dad was born at Lane Cove, Sydney in 1927 to Evelyn and Norm, the second child and eldest son in the family of six children.
When he left school, he became an apprentice bookbinder with the Government Printing Office. (Back then you had a job for life). The call of the ocean waves got the better of him and he joined the Navy in 1951 and became a Leading Radio Operator.
Dad got to see quite a lot of the world on his trips away and saw active service off Korea whilst serving HMAS ANZAC. He was very proud of that ship, serving in the Navy for twelve years. He attended many ANZAC Dawn Services in Sydney and proudly marched in the in the ANZAC Marches.
He Married our mum June in 1960 and served his last two years in the Navy based in Darwin where I (Cheryl) was born. We then moved to Harbord on the Northern Beaches of Sydney where dad had spent his childhood. My sister Sharon came along a few years later.
Dad worked at John Sands printing for many years. In 1977 we moved to Grenfell. He had a variety of jobs from wool pressing, tomato and sticking picking then finally a job at the Grenfell Tech as well as driving school buses.
Dad loved his rugby league, especially his Manly Sea Eagles. He assisted with the Grenfell Goannas and trained some junior league teams.
He adored us girls, his son in law Glen and was Pop to his three grandchildren - Tanya and he her husband Guy, Graham and Mitch and was poppypop to his three great grandchildren - Lilly, Will and James.
Dad was a loving, caring, person and would have helped anyone who needed it.
He will be sadly missed by his family and by his brother Jim and sisters Joan and Gwen and his many nieces and nephews.
Passing away at 92, dad had lived a great life - You have left a void in our lives but will be in our hearts and memories forever.
We love you Pop. Rest in Peace
