The school has asked all students to not bring mobile phones to school for the duration of the trial.
"The purpose of the trial is to observe any improvements on social interactions amongst students, observe any improvements on student learning outcomes during class time and observe any improvements on general functioning of the school," The Henry Lawson High School principal Aaron Flagg said.
The trail began on Wednesday January 29 with Mr Flagg encouraging parents to ring the school at any time if they need to communicate with their child.
"Likewise, students are welcome to contact their parents/guardians using the school phone when needed," he said.
Students who are required to have a mobile phone are able to still do so but must leave it at the front office for the duration of the school day.
"For very understandable reasons some parents/guardians may feel the need for their child to have a mobile phone before and after school.
"Those students are required to leave their phone at the front administration office when they arrive and the phone can be collected at 3.20 when school has finished."
