A meeting for the Henry Lawson Festival will be held on Wednesday February 12 at 6.30pm at the Grenfell Bowling Club with all members of the public invited to attend.

According to council the meeting is an "endevour to reactivate the committee to hold a Festival event this year."

Anyone wishing to step up and take on either an executive, co-ordinator position on the committee or to vote needs to become a member of the Henry Lawson Festival committee which only costs $2.

The Henry Lawson Festival is a Grenfell institution and to keep the festival going the committee needs volunteers and locals to step up and help run it as well as support it.

The annual festival brings visitors to Grenfell and the Weddin Shire area either to attend the festival or to bring their wares as a part of the street stalls.

The festival held over the June long weekend is designed to commemorate Henry Lawson, who was born in Grenfell in 1867, as well as his contribution to the arts by promoting and recognising aspiring Australians in their own artistic endevours.

At the end of last month a decision was made by the committee to put the 2020 Henry Lawson Festival into recess due to an inability to put together a full committee, the drought and the refurbishment of the main street with an evaluation expected to take place in July.

On Friday January 17 Weddin Shire Council held an extraordinary meeting where it was decided a Community Drought Event will take place in the Festival's stead for the June long weekend in 2020.

"I hope the towns people of Grenfell don't let the Henry Lawson Festival die as the town may just go down with it," one former resident wrote on Facebook.

"The festival injects money into the town. Grenfell has a great little community! Don't let it go."
