HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Judy Mitton was treated to a special morning tea at Unwind to celebrate her birthday on November 26. Special friends Joan Bolton and Chris Lobb were with Judy to celebrate.
REMEMBRANCE DAY: Glen Ivins, President of the Grenfell RSL Sub-Branch wishes to thank the schools for their participation on the day.
St Joseph's Primary School Captain, Skye McLelland delivered a most enlightening account of her great grandfather Captain Henry (Harry) Gustav Sundstrom who served in WW11 in the Australian Infantry. Grenfell Public School year 4 students Marley Loader and Savannah Bruce read the beautiful poem "Remembrance Sunday", whilst THLHS Captains Ayden Eyles and Ebony Abbott read the poems "In Flanders Fields" and We Shall Keep the Faith".
St Josephs and Grenfell Primary Schools were both presented with books for their school libraries in appreciation and THLHS was presented with a donation.
Following the service at Memorial Park, RSL members, guest and the Grenfell Cadet Platoon enjoyed an official luncheon at the Grenfell Bowling Club, where Grenfell Cadet of the Year 2019 was announced.
The Swagger Stick for Cadet of the Year sponsored by the Grenfell Bowling Club was presented to CPL Bailey O'Loughlin by Bianca Hughes, Manager of the Bowling Club.
Present for this presentation were TOOC Andy Cooper, Sgt Dillon King, Captain (AAC) Jon Brown and LT (AAC) Camille Baldwin as well as the Grenfell Platoon.
CAROLS IN THE PARK: On Sunday December 8 the Grenfell Association of Churches will be holding their annual Carols in Taylor Park. Bring along your chairs and picnic rug for a wonderful family evening out. The festivities will begin at 5:30pm with a sausage sizzle and a chance to sit and enjoy the Grenfell ambiance with your friends and family. The program itself will commence at 7:45pm, the full program will be announced closer to the date. The evening will finish between 9pm and 9.30pm.
In the case of wet weather, the event will be moved to The Henry Lawson High School auditorium.
CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL: The Grenfell Combined Service Clubs' Christmas Carnival will be held on Friday evening December 20, the official last day of school commencing at 6.30pm. The carnival will be held in Vaughn Park - next to the state of the art Aquatic Centre and Skate Park in Vaughn Park.
The Rotary Club will be cooking up a storm on the barbecue to satisfy the hungry and will have cool drinks for sale. The Lions Club will be operating their jumping castles for the younger members of the community at a very reasonable price of just $2 per ride. Other activities will be available on the night such as face painting and the Hospital Auxiliary members will conduct a trading table and a raffle. Other stall holders will be announced when they indicate they will be participating. The Lions Club will run the chocolate wheel, where hams, turkeys, chickens and Christmas cakes and puddings will be up for grabs. Tickets to visit Santa will be available from 6.30pm from the Lions Club members for just $2 - Just look for the Santa sign under the old BBQ area. Remember to buy your ticket before Santa arrives in the big red fire engine, courtesy of the NSW Fire and Rescue - Grenfell. Each child will receive a bag of sweets from the jolly old man in red who should arrive around 7.45pm. Santa tickets also include a can of soft drink from the Rotary Van. The Grenfell Town and District Band will entertain the partygoers throughout the evening with Christmas Carols to add atmosphere to the evening. The SES will provide lighting for the area and for this both clubs are very appreciative.
