Excited councillors, Weddin Shire Council workers and various sporting committee members watched on eagerly and excited for the turning of the first soil on what will be the ground of the new grandstand at Lawson Oval.
The new grandstand is a part of a renewal of the Lawson Oval amenities at a cost of $820,000 and the grandstand at $110,000.
A $50,000 fitness circuit will also be installed as a part of the upgrade to the grounds.
Many councillors in attendance agreed that the new grandstand will be a fantastic contribution to the community, not only with such strong sporting ties within the region but to help bring locals together as they battle the ongoing drought conditions.
"With the community hit hard by drought, this brand new facility will help lift the morale of the community, especially those people who love sport," Ms Cooke said.
Mr Liebich said the funding provides a welcomed boost for the community and will allow more people to enjoy sports in the region.
"By constructing a new facility that offers wheelchair access, more people will be able to enjoy watching sport here at Henry Lawson Oval, which will add to the atmosphere," he said.
