Organisers are inviting residents and visitors from and around Grenfell to join them at the Grenfell Showground and watch nearly 100 horse and rider combinations compete at the Team Penning weekend this Saturday and Sunday.
"Team Sorting involves a team of two riders sorting 10 head of cattle in numeric order from one side of the arena to the other in the fastest time possible," Deb Stanton said.
"Speed and skill are needed to keep unwanted cattle from going through in the wrong order which would end the teams ride."
There are strict rules applied throughout the event and each individual run to ensure the safety of horses, cattle and riders.
"Committee members have worked hard the last two years to add to the yards located at the Grenfell Showgrounds," Deb said.
"Grenfell Team Sorting is run under the Grenfell Show banner and the yards will remain as a permanent upgrade to the Showground."
The Grenfell Rodeo committee will be running a barbecue both days and there will be a coffee cart on site throughout the weekend.
Spectators are welcome and there is no cost for coming down for a look and to find out what it's all about.
With riders and horses coming from all across the region and the state it will be well worth the trip to experience the extremely popular sport.
According to Southern NSW Team Sorting the sport is a great horse and cattle sport featuring fun fast-paced action in a friendly and competitive environment. Teams can be made up of family, friends or new people that you get the opportunity to meet at the event. Each round promises to be filled with excitement and good humour.
Team Sorting is an entertaining spectator sport and fun for the whole family. Many great friendships have been made from meeting people at these events.
Beginners and experts - young and old - are welcome to test their horse's skills at Team Sorting events.
Working in teams of two riders, the aim is to sort 10 head of cattle in numeric sequence, in the shortest time, while keeping the cut cattle in the opposite end of the arena, and unwanted cattle from crossing the foul line.
The weekend will kick off from 8am this Saturday morning at the Grenfell Showground and 7am on Sunday morning with the day expected to finish around 2pm each day.
