In the same week that The Henry Lawson High School celebrated RU OK day with the presentation of six chairs to be given to schools across Weddin Shire Council, as well as its 2020 leadership team announced, one of the teachers at the school has also received a massive accolade.
The Henry Lawson High School visual arts teacher Jillian Reidy was recognised as one of Australia's best teachers las week when she was awarded with the highest level of accreditation in the country.
Mrs Reidy joined 22 other teachers from across the state who were also awarded their accreditation at a prestigious ceremony in Sydney.
Ms Reidy was acknowledged by Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke who said the awards recognised highly effective, innovatieve and exemplary teaching practices.
For the past two decades Mrs Reidy has taught the students who have gone through The Henry Lawson High School with her committment to not only her career but to the future of her students.
Having grown up in Coonabarabran Mrs Reidy understands growing up in a rural community and the benefits students are able to receive thanks to an excellent education however attributes her success to the support she receives from her collegues and the school as a whole.
"I'm on a faculty within a school of exceptional teachers, at Henry Lawson High School, I am very fortunate to work here, it's a small school that punches above its weight in a lot of areas," Mrs Reidy said.
Ms Cooke has very high praise for Mrs Reidy and is very proud to have her as a resident in the Cootamundra Electorate.
"Mrs Reidyreally represents the cream of the crop; she has gone above and beyond the daily demands of the job to achieve excellence in their profession," Ms Cooke said.
"She is using her expertise to lift the prospects of the children in our electorate, and I am proud and thankful for the work she is doing."
Minister for Education Sarah Mitchell said that teachers who achieve this level of accreditation are indispensable assets for their school communities as teaching experts, mentors and leaders.
