GRENFELL DRAMATIC SOCIETY: Following their meeting on Monday evening, members of the Dramatic Society participated in play readings in readiness for their Radio Plays which will be held during their exhibition of the society's fashions at the Art Gallery in September.
The Radio Plays are perfect if you don't love to learn your lines but have an interest in having a go. These radio plays will bring back memories from yesteryear and will certainly bring a smile to your face.
'Our Wardrobe: Bringing Characters to Life for 60 years'. The Grenfell Dramatic Society is excited to showcase their wardrobe's most beautiful vintage clothing, along with the production costumes that have brought their characters to life over the 60 years the Society has been active.
Take a walk down memory lane and wander through the years in both fashion and our local theatrical productions.
MEMORIES: In the Grenfell Record front page Tuesday July 31,1962 - just over two months before I came to Grenfell, the article "Dramatic Society Plays on August 21,22" reads; "The Grenfell Dramatic Society is busy preparing to stage another public performance.
Three one-act plays are in rehearsal, to be presented on August 21 and 22.
The plays a comedy, a farce and a drama, are in the hands of Lorna Flanagan, Del Dun and Alan Skinner, who with their casts are working hard to bring the plays to the usual high standard of the society.
Many of the stalwarts of the group are reappearing in the performance together with a number of newcomers.
Some of the leading roles will be taken by Roma Sinclair, Anne Davies, Mike Geraghty, Billie Martin, Leslie Coleman, and Geoff Kennedy, many of whom are familiar to those who have seen previous production by the society.
It is hoped to enter at least one of these plays in the Western Districts Drama Festival in September."
I found my photographs of productions that bring back great memories - Cabaret (1986) produced by Margaret (Ayoub) Lynch and Elizabeth Walmsley and Chicago (1988) produced by Gina Myers who was doing it as a University Unit with assistance from Elizabeth Walmsley.
LOUTH RACES: A group a of young people from Grenfell including Jake Taylor, Mitch Liebich, Steven Dinham, Will Brown, Henry Mitton, Isaac Watt, Jarrad Wilson, Tom Dinham, Steve Williams, Matt Randall and Lleiton Purdie travelled to Louth for their annual Picnic Race Meeting.
Many colourful outfits and colourful characters lifted the spirits of the little town which grew in size for this outstanding event. During the day "Fashions on the Field" were judged with Jarrad Wilson receiving first prize in the "best dressed" in the novelty section. Jarrad was photographed many times in his Leopard print suit. Well done Jarrad.
Lleiton Purdie was a Clerk of the Course on the day whilst the boys had a great time.
