NINETY YEARS YOUNG: Congratulations to Allan Holland who celebrated his 90th birthday on August 1. Allan was joined at his home in Dagmar Street by his three daughters Jennifer Gavin, Joanne Troy and Susan Witt and their families who had prepared a beautiful luncheon for his special day. Allan had a lovey day, with lots of visitors and many phone calls.

Allan's granddaughters Emily and Annah Witt and most of Joanne's family including great grandchildren dropped into wish him happy birthday and of course had some cake. A surprise visit from his first cousin John Penrose and his wife Adel topped off the day.
When asked what he thought was the best invention in his many years of farming he answered, "The angel grinder, automatic hay baler and the wheat bag lifter were greatest inventions as they made life on the farm so much easier". Happy birthday Allan.
CELEBRATIONS. On Sunday morning August 4 children of St Joseph's Parish celebrated the Sacrament of First Holy Communion and Confirmation.
Fr Tom Thornton officiated at Mass where Amelia Donnelly, Marco and Orlando Joyce, Francis McMahon, Isaac Pace and Lucy Power made their First Holy Communion and Cooper Biddle, Hamish Gibson, Nakarla and Ruby Hardy, Daisy McMahon and Annie Nealon were Confirmed.
Family, sponsors, friends and parishioners filled the Church to witness this most important occasion for the children.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Phoenix Mackinnon celebrated her birthday with a night out to dinner on August 1 with her parents Sheridan and Heath and grandparents Lea and Paul.
SHOWTIME: The 143rd annual Grenfell PAH&I Show will be held August 30-31. The Program of events and entry forms is now available at stores throughout the town including IGA, Post Office, Newsagent, Tourist Information Centre and the Show Office.
Family Memberships ($30) are available and entitle you to two admission tickets, admission of children under 17 years of age if accompanied by a parent or guardian allowing you to enter the showground as many times as you wish and the right to propose measures, take part in and vote at the Annual, Special and General Meetings of the Association.
Single Adult Membership is $15, Under 17 $10, children under 5 years are free, Aged Pensioners $5 and other Pensioners $10 (required to present card). If you are not a member entry fee is $20, children under 17 years $10 and pensioners as above. Pass out available.

GRENFELL COMBINED CHURCHES DINNER: With the approval of the last Association of Churches meeting, this year we are changing from a 'Men's Dinner' to a dinner for both men and women, catered for at the Country Club. In this way women will also be able to enjoy a meal and hear the guest speaker.
The date set for the dinner hosted by St Joseph's Parish is Thursday September 26, 6.30pm for fellowship followed by dinner at 7pm. Cost will be $25 which includes a two course meal. For catering purposes all tickets must be booked and paid for by September 18, so no late bookings can be accepted. Tickets will be available from Jan Myers at Louisa's Locker.
LONG TAN MEMORIAL DAY: The President and members of the Grenfell RSL Sub Branch invite the community to join them and all Vietnam Veterans and Ex Service Members to the commemorative service for The Battle of Long Tan and remember those who served. The service will commence at1800hr (6pm) on Sunday, August 18 at the Cenotaph.
There were 17 young men from Grenfell who served in Vietnam. Community members are also invited to join with them at a dinner at the Railway Hotel following the service. If you wish to attend dinner, please RSVP to Glen Ivins by Wednesday, August 14 on 0047 456 509.
